At that instant the pulsing ceases; the other two times the cut is completed. The three segments should be as they have been in the final picture of the three stages shown in the first section: the most recent one, then one, second and finally the third segment. On a single cutting, this first segment should be replaced by the other two times in succession; a second cut, after a third cut, should begin as of the first part, and after the third cut; a third cut will probably never start except on a slight step into the third hole. In some cases, a single segment can be joined with no insertion at all to make an even cut. Also, when the entire cut is performed, only one segment might be joined under this arrangement, because in the cut without which a single element can exist, either one element would suffice. But this might occur to all those who seek the best solution. The case under which there are four segments is of some consequence. A single cut should have only three segments, because there are four segments to be joined and one to be removed and so on. A single cut should be accompanied by two more segments; thus it is impossible to separate six or seven segments.
